What You Need To Know About Organic Food Vs Conventional Food

Every year the organic market grows steadily by about twenty percent which means that nearly every supermarket will soon have organic alternatives on every isle whether it is snack foods, frozen meals or baked goods. Everyone wants to eat health and organic food vs. conventional food seems to be one of the biggest debates when it comes to nutrition. But how can you really compare organic food vs. conventional food and determine which is the best for you to go with.

The Nutrition Factor

The first thing you need to compare in organic food vs. conventional food is the nutritional value. There are some organic foods that do have higher nutrient levels than conventional foods. However, not all organics have been research so science cannot yet say with one hundred percent efficiency that all organic foods provide more nutritional value than conventional foods. Although there are other benefits when it comes to organic food vs. conventional food, such as less process and fewer chemically treated ingredients. Basically when it comes down to organic food vs. conventional food you should read the label of each product and consider the calories and saturated fat, some may have the same amount and others may have a big difference.

The Environment Factor

Another aspects that has become a large debate in the organic food vs. conventional food controversy is the environment. Science has no specific evidence that organic foods are indeed better for the environment.  Even the natural pesticides used in organic production can still be toxic to humans and wildlife although not as toxic as the standard chemicals. There can also be harmful bacteria such as E. coli in organic fertilizers. Also when comparing organic food vs. conventional food the organic farming yields only 75 to 90 percent of the crop which means that more land needs to be planted to get an equal return.

Those who support organic food use the argument that conventional farming chemicals will spread far beyond the fields and their intended consequences. There has been proof that synthetic pesticides are related to the cause of developmental and neurological problems. Organics do not use the synthetic pesticides that can damage the farmers, land and drinking water. Another issue that has unclear implications for the environment is the fact that organic farming prohibits the use of genetic modification. However, all that really matters is you body and in order to benefit it you need to have a good, balanced diet that includes variety and moderation no matter what you determine in the organic food vs. conventional food debate.
